About Me.

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. My name is Maggie Banks and I’m a licensed therapist dedicated to helping you navigate your mental health journey. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from NYU and a background in Art and Psychology from Syracuse University.

My approach to therapy is flexible and tailored to your unique needs, utilizing various treatment modalities, including Emotion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). I believe that each client is different, and I work collaboratively with you to determine the best methods for addressing your symptoms and achieving your goals.

With over ten years of experience in acute crisis centers and group therapy, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals through challenging times. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and foster personal growth.

I’m passionate about empowering my clients on their path to healing and self-discovery. If you’re ready to take the next step, I look forward to working with you!

Evidence Based Therapy

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a unique empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies, together with commitment and behavior change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being, and based on what the situation affords, changing or persisting in behavior in the service of chosen values.

DBT

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy (psychotherapy). It’s based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but it’s specially adapted for people who experience emotions very intensely.

“Dialectical” means combining opposite ideas. DBT focuses on helping people accept the reality of their lives and their behaviors, as well as helping them learn to change their lives, including their unhelpful behaviors.

Dialectical behavior therapy was developed in the 1970s by Marsha Linehan, an American psychologist.

EFFT

Emotion Focused Family Therapy
